Housing development vote coming July 19th

An important vote to determine the viability of a major multi-use housing development has been delayed until next month. Moore County Commissioners have tentatively moved the Pine Forest Rezoning Application to July 19th. Vice Chairman Jimmy Melton is being treated for a heart condition and the date of his return is not entirely certain. Commissioners expected to hear a Planning Board recommendation on the controversial proposal next week. A Florida-Based Firm wants permission to build three golf courses on 16-hundred acres between Pinehurst and West End. Expensive homes, a resort hotel and a neighborhood shopping center are part of a plan that face s stiff opposition from environmentalists concerned with the threat of traffic congestion, water pollution and destruction of wetlands.
