Pinecrest ballplayer selected by Chicago Cubs
A Pinecrest High school Pitcher appears headed for the BIGS. Dillon Maples, a Pinecrest Senior and a Patriot Hurler with an Earned –Run Average of 0.92, was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the 14th round. The talented 18-year-old has already signed a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at U-N-C. His career record at Pinecrest was 20 and 4. In addition, he played first base for the Patriots and led the team with a .431 batting average. Maples has until Mid-August to decide whether to sign a professional baseball contract or attend college. Last week he was named The Gatorade North Carolina Player Of The Year.
