Budget surplus leads to less money for Moore County Schools digital learning initiative
The Superintendent Of Moore County Schools says sound business practices and not overfunding have left the system in good financial shape. Superintendent Aaron Spence was responding to a comment by the Chairman of The Board of Commissioners that “a surplus” in school funding existed.
This surplus, according to Chairman Nick Picerno, was among several factors which led county lawmakers’ decision to award only half of a $750,000.00 budget request to help pay for a proposed digital learning initiative. Superintendent Spence insists the accrual to the system’s fund balance was actually the result of “good leadership decision making.” “I am,” says Spence, “surprised by the county’s position.”
