Pinehurst Concours Artwork Raises $6,000
VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, N.C. (May 4, 2013)
– An original oil painting by renowned artist Bill Patterson, drawn live on base at Fort Bragg as part of the Pinehurst Concours Iron Mike Rally, has been auctioned for $6,000, with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated to The Patriot Foundation.
The 36-by-48 inch painting was auctioned Friday night at a “Welcome to Pinehurst” cocktail reception at the Pinehurst Fair Barn, attended by the Pinehurst Concours entrants, judges and guests.
The Patriot Foundation was founded to provide support for families of Fort Bragg Airborne and Special Operations Soldiers, and other selected warriors.
“Including our military in our inaugural event, with nine Wounded Warriors riding with entrants in the Iron Mike Rally to Fort Bragg for a celebration of fellowship was truly inspiring for all of us,” said Pinehurst Concours Executive Director Jay Howard. “And being able to raise money for The Patriot Foundation later Friday evening really capped off a day of reflection.”
Patterson is the official artist of Mazda Raceway in California. He has been commissioned to sketch three pieces of art during the inaugural three-day vintage auto showcase at Pinehurst Resort. On Friday, Patterson accompanied more than 50 rare cars from the Village of Pinehurst to Fort Bragg’s Parade Field to capture the spirit of the day.
The colorful painting, which took Patterson 90 minutes to draw, depicts four vintage autos in the foreground of a tree-lined backdrop with two nearby symbols of the Fort Bragg Parade Field – the iconic Iron Mike Statue and a steeple.
“During this live sketch I thought about incorporating elements to make the painting part of the event, part of the day, part of this special moment,” Patterson said. “I felt so much energy from the people around me at Fort Bragg. It really inspired me to create something that’s truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art.”
Patterson will also be painting the winner of the “Best in Show” at Sunday’s judging on the emerald green fairways of Pinehurst Resort.
General admission tickets for the Pinehurst Concours are on sale for $50. VIP packages are also still available to the May 5 competition of 118 vintage autos on the lush green fairways of Pinehurst Resort. Log on to www.pinehurstconcours.com
