SandhillsTribune.Com - The apartment fire Friday night at 963 Richards Street is being investigated as a possible arson. As of midnight Friday when our reporter left the fire location officials were still on the scene conducting the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a small group of men running from the location of the apartment where the fire was burning.
Moore County Public Safety Director Bryan Phillips and the county arson dog Friday were called out to assist with the investigation. The 2 year old Labrador is specially trained to detect materials used to start fires such as gasoline or other accelerants.
According to police detectives on the scene the State Bureau of Investigation Arson Unit has been called to assist the local agencies.
This incident is being investigated by a team of officials from Southern Pines Fire & Rescue, the Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, and the Southern Pines Police Department. As further details become available we will update readers.
