Vietnam Vets convince commissioners to drop sale

Commissioner Tim Lea says he isn't satisfied with the explanation that county-owned property is too close to the veterans memorial in Carthage was never to close to being sold. A delegation of Vietnam Veterans this week urged lawmakers to drop the idea after minutes of closed-door sessions in October disclosed commissioners had indeed discussed the possibility of selling the property. Lea critized his colleagues for meeting behind closed-doors to discuss the sale of one-point-three acres to Bojangles, a fast food franchise, for $280,000.00. This week Lea accused other board members of sidestepping the issue instead of acting immediately to protect the memorial from commercial encroachment.
