Safety Center could bear name of fallen officer

Moore County Commissioners this week announced their intention to dedicate the new public safety center in the name of Rick Rhyme, a sheriff’s deputy who was killed in the line of duty last year, the 27-million dollar complex in the center of Carthage is expected to be finished sometime in November. The 58-year-old Deputy was responding to a trespassing complaint in the Lobelia Community. He encountered an armed fugitive wanted for failing to provide child support. After fatally wounding Deputy Rhyme, the man turned the gun on himself. Rick Rhyme was the first Moore County Sheriff’s Deputy killed in the line of duty.
