Firsthealth breaks ground on Hoke County Hospital

In 2009 Firsthealth Of The Carolinas filed an application to build a hospital in neighboring Hoke County. Today, three years later, the Pinehurst-based health care system breaks ground for an eight-bed 30-million dollar hospital in Raeford. Hoke Community Hospital is scheduled to open in the spring of 2014. Firsthealth survived a series of legal challenges by the Johnny-come-lately Cape-Fear Valley Heal System, intent on building a hospital of its own to serve Hoke Coounty. The State Division Of Health Services Regulation eventually granted its approval to build both hospitals. In the meantime, Firsthealth sought permission to add 28 beds to its plans for Hoke Community. That pending application has not interfered with today’s ground breaking ceremony. Julian King is Chairman Of The Firsthealth Board Of Directors. “As a longtime resident of Hoke County,” says King in prepared remarks, “I am delighted ot ojin others in our community ot celebrate Firsthealth bringing unmatched quality health care and hospital services to Hoke County.”
