Commissioner proposes logical way to cut spending
Commissioner Nick Picerno says one way to cut spending is to look at unfilled positions in Moore County Government. Picerno, considered especially knowledgeable in budget matters, made the observation during a public hearing. “We don’t want to fire anyone or lay anyone off, says the former board chairman, “ but I was shocked to see the number of vacancies there are in the system.” Now would be a good time to see how many of those positions could simply be eliminated. The budget submitted by County Manager Cary McSwain, although balanced, calls for a spending increase of one-point-two million dollars. Commissioner Tim Lea says the number of unfilled positions stands at 35.
