Land Trust partners with Army for land purchase
The Sandhills Area Land Trust revealed this week that it has for the first time for the past four years partnered with the Army to buy land near Fort Bragg for the military’s survival training. The land trust is based in Moore Executive Director Candace Williams says the arrangement keeps the land preserved in a natural pristine state, fulfilling the mission of the trust. “We actually purchase the land with department of defense money for the intention of both training and, of course preservation” Williams explains. The Sandhills Area Land Trust was established in 1991 to protect water from pollution and specified acreage from development. It controls more than 11,000 acres in six Sandhills counties and owns 4,000 acres outright.
