Pinehurst installs outdoor riding area

The Village Of Pinehurst, already a favorite of sulky drivers as a wintering-over destination for their standard breeds, is hoping to attract more stylish horse events during the summer months. Pinehurst has finished constructing a permanent outdoor horse riding area on the infield of its Beulah Hill Road Harness Track. A Pinehurst announcement says new show rings are expected to greatly enhance the draw for horse shows and other equine events. Specifically mentioned are dressage and hunter jumper. New show rings, according to the announcement, have already led to commitments of five new shows added to the 2012 schedule. Also, upgrades to barns and tracks have resulted in the historic harness facility operating at capacity for the last three years.
