Robbins expected to OK sale of alcohol
Robbins Town Commissioners are hoping that voters in November will approve the sale of beer, wine and mixed drinks. A third of the population exists below the poverty line and officials are convinced the sale of alcohol will help the local economy. The closest place in Moore County where mixed drinks are sold is Carthage, 12 miles away. The decision to put the initiative on the ballot has the unanimous support of town commissioners. There are presently no hotels, private clubs in Robbins. That could change if voters approve the sale of alcohol and there are reasons they just might. Since the year 2000 the area lost 710 jobs, that’s 56 percent of the population. The official unemployment rate is 20-percent.
