Robbins attorney uses law to halt secret meetings
Citing North Carolina’s Open Meetings Law, the attorney for the town of Robbins says town officials and Moore County Commissioners are prohibited from meeting behind closed doors to conduct water negotiations. Douglas Gill recently notified County attorney Misty Leland of the town’s position. During the summer Robbins submitted a draft proposal to sell all the town’s water facilities to a newly formed Northwest Moore Water District. The draft proposal contained stipulations which are being studied by county engineers. It is, apparently, these details which both sides want to discuss privately. As Gill interprets state law, such discussions would be a violation.
