Water contamination caused by local company
The Environmental Protection Agency says a company which used a cancer-causing industrial solvent years ago is probably responsible for groundwater contamination that still poisons the water in some private wells south of Aberdeen. However, two wells that pump contaminated water into the town of Aberdeen’s safely mix with pure water from other wells, thereby diluting the town water supply to safe levels. That’s the word from E-P-A Project Manager Jon Bornholm this week. The E-P-A monitors levels four times a year. Its findings indicate there are dozens of contaminated wells south of Aberdeen. According to the E-P-A’s Bornholm, none are used for drinking.
