Hero cop testifies, describes killer's plea
Blunt testimony Wednesday from the young Carthage Police Officer who brought down Robert Stewart may have sealed the fate of the confessd Massed Murderer. Defense Attorneys are prepared to argue that Stewart was under the influence of a sleep-aid and doesn’t remember anything from that day two years ago. Yesterday Former Carthage Police Corporal Justin Garner described how he traded shots with Stewart, dropping the hulking menace with a bullet from Garner’s 40-caliber service pistol in his shoulder. As Corporal Garner bent over the downed Stewart, now handcuffed and with his weapons unloaded, he quoted the man who had just taken the lives of eight people as pleading to be executed. Testified Garner,” he kept saying “kill me, kill me. Please just kill me.” Hardly the words of a man who didn’t understand the horror he had visited no his elderly victims and the other residents of the Pinelake Health And Rehabilitation Center. Garner, hailed as a hero, is now a cadet completing his last six weeks of training for the state highway patrol. Stewart’s trial, in only its first week, continues today in Carthage.Blunt testimony Wednesday from the young Carthage Police Officer who brought down Robert Stewart may have sealed the fate of the confessed Massed Murderer.
