Another CCNC home damaged by Lightning fire
For the second time in a matter of months a expensive home on the grounds of The Country Club of North Carolina has been badly damaged in a fire blamed on lightning. The owners of the home on Dornoch Drive, Charles and Maritas Webb were out of town. Pinehurst Fire Chief Carlton Cole says lightning struck a tree Wednesday during a violent thunderstorm and followed a ground conduit into the basement, where it spread. Cole estimates the fire burned for more than an hour before neighbors spotted smoke and sounded the alarm. He estimates damage at a quarter-million dollars. In April a large home on Cherry Hill Drive was badly damaged by fire. Also in that case, the owners were away and the blaze got a considerable head start before neighbors saw flames licking through the roof. Lightning was the culprit in that fire too.
