The Southern Pines Police Department is offering a new community service that permits police to be in touch with individual residents who sign up.
Nixle, as it’s called, provides certified and secure information in an instant through text messages and E-Mails in the event of an emergency that requires public attention or action.
That’s according to Robert Temme, Community Service Coordinator for the Southern Pines Police Department.
The system, he says, will be particularly useful when there are major traffic problems, extreme weather conditions, crime alerts and missing person alerts.
Temme says any citizen, business or organization can register for the free service by linking to the website www.nixle.com.
Additional information, like how to customize your account, is available on the website when you register, according to Temme.
He adds that there is no advertising associated with the information service and you will not be solicited as a result of your registration.
