Moore County Schools Superintendent Susan Purser says funding cuts that threatened teaching positions last year are no less serious a second time around.
She expects the state will again withhold more than a million dollars, and just like a year ago the difference will be made up by federal stimulus money.
The federal infusion,, says Purser, saved 132 positions then.
This time she expects as many as 50 positions may not be saved as the county faces the additional cost of operating two new schools.
About two-thirds of the school system’s budget is funded by the state.
Purser says the county, which supplies the rest, will be asked to increase its support.
