Pinehurst Mayor dies after suffering fall at home |

George Lane, Pinehurst’s Mayor since 2007, died
Tuesday Morning
in Moore Regional Hospital of head injuries sustained ten days
ago when he fell in the garage of his Brookhaven Road home.
An 83-year-old Widower, moved to Pinehurst with his
wife 20
years ago.
In recent years he was increasingly active in civic
affairs
and created the important “Moore County Summit” where municipal
leaders and county officials gathered to form a working relationship and
exchange ideas.
Lane was raised on Long Island, earned a doctorate
in
educational administration at the University Of Massachusetts and spent
28
years of his life as a schools superintendent.
He is survived by three childrenConservative Lawmaker Howard Coble, who repre4sents most of Moore County in the 6th congressional district, yesterday was taken to a High-Point hospital after fainting during a talk to the Rotary Club.
Coble’s Chief Of Staff Ed McDonald says the 78-year-old Congressman appeared to hit his head on a wall as he fell midway through a talk to Rotarians in a banquet room of the High Point Country Club.
A man attending the meeting says Coble regained consciousness within moments.
The 13-Term Congressman was taken by ambulance to High Point Hospital where he underwent tests .
Two years ago Coble, along with the rest of the North Carolina Republican Delegation, voted against the now infamous 700-billion dollar bank bailout bill known as “Tarp” that was pushed through congress by President Bush and Former Goldman-Sachs Chairman, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson.
Goldman-Sachs was one of the recipients of bailout cash.
Coble served in the Coast Guard during the Korean War.
His home is in Greensboro.
