George Lane, Pinehurst’s popular 83-year-old Mayor, has been hospitalized at Moore Regional with serious injuries sustained during a fall in the garage of his Brookhaven Road Home.
Lane was put in an induced coma to reduce brain swelling after surgery.
Lane, now a widower, is a former school superintendent who moved to Pinehurst with his wife 15 years ago.
He was elected Pinehurst Mayor in 2007, replacing Steve Smith who decided not to run again.
During Lane’s absence his duties will be assumed by Mayor Pro-Tem Virginia Fallon.
